Safeguarding and ‘Prevent’

Manshead CE Academy takes safeguarding very seriously.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

At Manshead CE Academy we believe that safeguarding children is the responsibility of all members of our community.  All Manshead CE Academy staff are trained in safeguarding and know and understand what to do if there is a safeguarding issue that needs to be addressed.  The people listed below are the main contacts for safeguarding in the academy.  If you have a safeguarding concern as a parent or member of the community please contact a member of the team.

The ‘Prevent’ Duty

(Protecting Young People from Radicalisation)

Manshead takes seriously its responsibility to prevent young people from being drawn into extremist activities.

Our approach is to build awareness of extremism and to enable our students to challenge extremist views. We do not stop the debating of controversial issues, but instead provide a safe space in which students and staff can raise these issues, understand the associated risks and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to respond to extremism.

If anyone has concerns that extremist or radical activity could be affecting anyone in the school community, they should contact the School’s Designated Senior Person for Child Protection immediately – contact details above.

http://www.educateagainsthate.com/ gives practical advice and support in keeping children safe from the dangers of extremism.
