Velo Day
On Wednesday we went to the Welwyn Garden City Velodrome. When we arrived at the velodrome we got our bikes and we headed down to the track. As we waited for everyone to come down we checked our helmets and our gloves. The first exercise we had to do was to cycle around the 400m track. We got a feel for our bikes and how to accelerate and slow down. What I found amazing was the pressure a track bike gives when you stop pedalling. Coming to a complete stop was extremely hard and some of us fell off when we tried to get our feet down. When we started cycling on the velodrome it was a strange experience. The steep bank made you feel like you would fall off but it was amazing that you just stuck on. I think my favourite part of the day was the flying 250 which was our last activity of the day. This is where we got timed for travelling 250m around the track. I managed 17.30 seconds but I was beaten narrowly by Mr Stowe. It was a great experience and I would consider taking up track cycling.
