|Knowledge and Wisdom in Science||Science at Manshead CE Academy aspires to develop scientifically informed, caring and responsible individuals who can think critically and make informed choices about themselves, the environment and society. Intended Science curriculum at Manshead CE Academy supports to acquire knowledge, conceptual understanding and skills to solve problems and make informed decisions in scientific and other contexts. Students develop skills of scientific inquiry to design and carry out scientific investigations and evaluate scientific evidence to draw conclusions. Science curriculum extends to communicate scientific ideas, arguments and practical experiences accurately in a variety of ways. We encourage our students to appreciate the benefits and limitations of science and its application in technological developments and to understand the international nature of science and the interdependence of science, technology and society, including the benefits, limitations and implications imposed by social, economic, political, environmental, cultural and ethical factors. We encourage our students to demonstrate attitudes and develop values, honesty and respect for themselves, others, and their shared environment.|
|Curriculum and Teaching and Learning Overview||Science department aims to:
Provide a challenging and stimulating learning environment for students where they are able to display their ability and be stretched and challenged. Students are offered opportunities to be creative, critical, competitive, co-operative and to face challenges as individuals during their learning environment. They will learn to think in different ways to suit the different challenges. They are allowed opportunities to demonstrate their learning and to use a range of teacher, peer and self-assessment. The schemes of work promote both continuity and progression. Science lessons are planned for inclusion of all students. Tasks and materials are differentiated to allow this to happen.
Students are taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics contents during their academic year. Every students have individual pupil learning profile which helps them to check and evaluate their progress during the topic learning. Students are continuously assessed in variety of ways and supported to close the loop with variety of stimulating and challenging activities.
At KS 4 students are streamed to separate science and combined science (AQA Trilogy). All students sits for public exam at the end of year 11. Students are assessed continuously during their learning journey at KS4 and supported through variety of activities i.e. interventions, learning resources, practical activities, modelling etc. Every student sits for six exam papers in order to achieve their grades (9-1).
At A level we offer all three sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and follow OCR board. Students make their choice of subjects during year 11. Students are given comprehensive advice during the period of their option choices. Students receive their offers based on their achievements at KS4. At Manshead CE Academy KS5 sciences are joyful and successful. Our students get entries to highly regarded universities (Oxford, Cambridge, St. Andrews etc.) for their chosen subjects.
|Learning beyond the classroom||Science at Manshead CE Academy offers a wide range of lunch time and after school activities. These activities include CREST award and robotics which are suited to most of our KS3 students. At higher level, there are trips and visits with aim to support curriculum and enrich students experience during their learning journey. Students are able to access extra learning resources i.e. past papers, knowledge organisers, sample questions mapped to each topics with their model answers to support their learning in their own time with their own pace. Our students get access and support from other online resources i.e. Tassomai, Snap Revise, Kerboodle with extra dropping sessions to clear their doubts and enhance their learning experiences.|
