Golden Girls
Following hot on the heels of the boys, Manshead now has its first female Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award holders. Well done Lauren Bufton and Sophia Harris – we hardly recognise you without your 40lb rucksacks and not caked in mud! To achieve their Gold Award the girls have spent twelve months on a volunteering project, completed a one week community-action residential activity, survived alone in their small group of students for four nights on Dartmoor (and we mean on Dartmoor – not in a campsite on Dartmoor!), and worked towards targets involving new skills and physical fitness. Oh, and they have been working on their A-Levels as well! It is a really extraordinary achievement – well done Lauren and Sophia. And we have three more girls from Lauren and Sophia’s group who are hoping to have completed their Gold Awards later this year, plus four more girls starting out on the challenge. Come on boys – you might have been first past the post but where are you now?
