Attendance
Why Every School Day Matters
At Manshead CE Academy we believe that every school day matters
A student that misses 10% of school sessions, whether the absence is authorised or unauthorised, is considered a “Persistent Absentee”
Pupils who attend school regularly are likely to leave school with more qualifications and greater access to employment opportunities
- 90% attendance equates to 19 days of missed school a year
- 15 minutes late every day equates to 10 days of lost schooling each year
- There are 175 days to spend on family time, visits, holidays and appointments
Missing school impacts your child as:
- It affects your child’s attainment
- They suffer a break in the continuity of their learning or miss important topics
- They suffer with poor confidence due to the fact that they have missed mid-topic information and are unable to understand or catch up
- They will be at a disadvantage at Exam time
- Your child’s results and progress suffers
- It disrupts your child’s learning, friendships and social development
How you can help
Routine is key. Here are the top seven things that will help:
- Help make sure your child is prepared by school by checking and packing schoolbags and PE kits the night before
- Keep an eye on homework progress
- Make sure your child goes to bed at a sensible time – tired children find it hard to learn
- Have a morning routine – make sure the alarm goes off at the same time every morning
- Make time for breakfast. A nutritious breakfast aids learning and gets rid off any shop stops on the way to school
- Get your child to school on time so that they can meet their friends first thing – this will stop your child from becoming unsettled throughout the day
- Get your child to help you put together a Calendar at home for all trips, events and activities that are going on at school
