Sociology

Studying Sociology will enable you to appreciate different perspectives on some of the most important questions facing our society; that you can read and analyse material from a wide range of sources, write eloquently on a variety of topics and that you are willing to listen to and debate with people with diverse points of view. These are all very valuable skills required for both undergraduate and employment opportunities.

Psychology

Studying Psychology will enable you understand yourself and other people by learning about aspects of human behaviour that will help you in daily life.

These include your interactions with others, your learning and memory performance, your ability to cope with pressure, your understanding of the causes of psychological disorders and also how to treat them. Understanding these aspects of human behaviour will give you the knowledge to be able to enter any career path, as psychology helps us to understand people, and every career involves people.

Government & Politics A-Level

What is politics? Politics exists because people disagree. They disagree about how they should live (moral questions), about who should get what (resource questions) and about who should make decisions (power questions). Politics seeks to establish the general rules under which we live and it is those rules that make orderly existence possible. As such, politics is the most basic and necessary of social activities – without orderly existence, society will degenerate into a civil war of each against all.

Law

Studying Law will help to develop knowledge and understanding of the English Legal system. The study of Law at A-level enables students to develop their analytical and critical thinking skills. Studying Law develops students’

problem solving skills through the application of legal rules, together with an understanding of legal method and reasoning.

Health and Social Care

Studying health and social care will give students the opportunity to learn and understand a number of aspects involved in the health and social care sector today, for example, care homes and hospitals. Some of these include the effects of communication; the physical, intellectual, emotional and social impact of development; health and safety and anti-discriminatory practice within health and social care settings. These key aspects are important for those who are looking into a career in the health and social care sector.
