Knowledge and Wisdom in Business, Economics and Finance |
Manshead CE Academy strives to offer students a belief in themselves. A belief that they can be who they want to be and if that means being the future CEO of a successful organisation or the owner of a successful small business… then we must provide the curriculum in schools to make that happen.
Every student has the ability to be innovative, even dream and have big ideas. Studying the world of economics and business provides students with the knowledge of how the business and economy work. It will be the first time that students will have a fuller understanding of how finance, human resources, marketing and operations contribute to a successful enterprise. We aspire for the curriculum to provide a realistic insight into real case studies and the experiences of real companies. Their successes and their failures, therefore the study will provide students with realistic expectations for the world of work. In this way, students understand resilience and accept that anyone can succeed in life if they expect failure to be a part of it.
The local area is made up of many successful small family owned enterprises and an increasing number of large multinational companies such as Amazon. Studies in business, economics and finance provide future opportunities to our young learners, to be a part of that success in the future. |
Curriculum and Teaching and Learning Overview | Our department aims to:
Provide an inspiring and dynamic environment where students are presented with opportunities to be creative, self-motivated and entrepreneurial.
They will learn to think about the world they live in through exposure to case business case studies. They will also become knowledgeable about the frameworks that exist in Britain to ensure that all businesses act within the law. They will analyse how the legislative frameworks support the local economy and the UK economy as a whole and wherever possible they will have opportunities to challenge these frameworks and a number of other models that are studied.
Students will be encouraged to discuss their views in lessons while observing the views of others. They will need to appreciate that there are different philosophies behind each business and consider this within their own ethical and moral code. They will consider the views of different stakeholders, and the impact that businesses and governments have on stakeholders and communities.
Studying this group of subjects should inspire a future generation to be bold, and take risks. Students should see possibilities for themselves and more importantly, they will progress with life skills, which promote employment in a variety of contexts.
The schemes of work will promote both continuity and progression should the students wish to study any of these subjects to a higher level. Business, Economics and Finance lessons are planned to be accessible to all students. Tasks and materials are differentiated to allow this to happen. |
Learning beyond the classroom |
Manshead School offers a wide range of lunchtime and after school activities. These activities are open to all students regardless of age or ability level.
Trips are organized which offer visits to the local and wider area. There are overlaps with trips organized by other departments e.g. Geography visiting the local town centre or Art visiting local art galleries; such visits will expose students to real businesses.
Students will be able and encouraged to research online. Focusing on companies and organisations that complement their studies or are of particular personal interest. They will also be encouraged to read the local and national newspapers or make studies of news stories on the internet, which provide useful examples of how the business world; local economy or financial institutions work.
Students have access to the department’s PowerPoints and knowledge organisers on the portal, alongside all the work that needs to be completed including homework, giving parents the opportunity to support their children but also share their own experiences. |
