What is the intent behind your curriculum and how does this contribute to the values of the school? |
Manshead CE Academy's curriculum is designed with the intent to cultivate self-belief in our students, empowering them to envision and achieve their aspirations, whether that be leading a major corporation or running a successful small business. Our curriculum aligns with the whole school's vision by fostering academic excellence and personal development within a supportive environment.
By studying economics and business, students gain essential insights into the workings of business and the economy, understanding key areas such as finance, human resources, marketing, and operations. Our curriculum emphasises real-world applications through case studies and experiences of actual companies, preparing students with realistic expectations and instilling resilience by demonstrating that success often follows failure.
Reflecting the whole school's intent, our curriculum is ambitious and knowledge-rich, ensuring that every student, regardless of their background or starting point, can achieve their full potential. We integrate the Church of England’s vision, emphasising knowledge and wisdom, critical thinking, moral purpose, community values, and tailored experiences to meet learners' needs. Through enrichment activities, we enhance students' cultural capital and provide guidance for thriving in modern Britain.
Our aim is to develop aspirational, confident, and compassionate students who will flourish both academically and socially. This approach ensures our students are well-prepared to contribute positively to the local and global community, embodying the values of aspiration, hope, faith, compassion, and responsibility. |
How is your curriculum sequenced, taught and assessed to allow all learners, including those who are disadvantaged and have special educational needs, to flourish? |
Our curriculum is sequenced, taught, and assessed to ensure all learners, including those who are disadvantaged and have special educational needs, can flourish. We provide an inspiring and dynamic environment where students are encouraged to be self-motivated and entrepreneurial. Lessons are designed to be accessible to all.
Sequencing is carefully planned to ensure that students build on their knowledge and skills year by year. In both KS4 and KS5, we follow the schemes of work given by the exam boards to ensure continuity and progression. The curriculum includes exposure to business and economics case studies, helping students understand the external influences on the local and UK economy. This systematic approach allows students to develop a deep understanding of the subjects, laying a strong foundation for advanced study.
Our teaching methods encourage students to engage actively with the content. They are invited to discuss their responses while respecting the perspectives of others, promoting a classroom culture of dialogue and mutual respect.
Assessment is designed to be inclusive, with a variety of question styles being asked at each stage. This provides multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding and progress. We use a variety of assessment methods to capture a broad range of skills and knowledge, ensuring that every student, regardless of background or ability, can achieve their full potential.
Our curriculum fosters the values of aspiration, confidence, and compassion, aligning with the whole school’s vision of academic excellence and personal development. By embedding these values, we prepare students to contribute positively to their communities and thrive. This inclusive approach ensures that all learners, including those who are disadvantaged or have special educational needs, are equipped to succeed and flourish both academically and socially. |
How does your curriculum support students’ learning beyond the classroom? |
Our curriculum at Manshead CE Academy supports students’ learning beyond the classroom through a variety of enriching activities and resources that enhance their academic and personal development.
Educational trips are organised for KS5 students. These trips expose students to the real world, helping them connect theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. Such interactions with the real world are crucial for developing a deeper understanding of the business and economics case studies they read in lesson and to build students’ cultural capital.
To further support independent learning, students are also urged to read local and national newspapers or study news stories on the internet, providing them with useful examples of business operations, the local economy, and financial institutions.
Students have access to the department’s PowerPoints and knowledge organisers, which include all necessary work and homework, to aid their personal revision.
By offering these enrichment activities and resources, we ensure our students develop the cultural capital, skills, and knowledge needed to thrive. This approach aligns with our school’s vision of preparing students to be aspirational, confident, and compassionate individuals who can flourish both inside and outside the classroom. |
